Chilean flamenco nests in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay, while in southern Brazil it is only a non-reproductive migrant.

It is widely distributed throughout South America, being found in Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay.
In Chile it is found from the region of Arica and Parinacota to Tierra del Fuego. It lives in shallow waters, fresh or salt water, from the coast up to 4600 m.s.n.m. It is more abundant in the ends of the country.

Length between 80 and 120 cms. Weight between 6 and 7 kilograms.
With light pink plumage, with darker areas near the tail. Pink, primary and secondary wings black. The bill is large, wide, bent down, light in the part closest to the head, and black in the most extreme part. Tarsos bluish bone color with knee and red legs. Yellow eyes.
Immature and juvenile with brownish tones and brown legs.

The Chilean Flamingos are more rosy, and a little smaller, than the Common Flamingo, but paler than the Caribbean Flamingo, and are distributed in the temperate South American continent from Peru to the south, inhabiting alkaline lakes or shallow salares.
