Bottle nose dolphin

Familia: Delphinidae
Genero: Tursiops
Nombre Cientifico: truncatus

Local names: bottlenose dolphin or bottlenose dolphin

It is the most common dolphin species of the Delphinidae family.
In the wild, these dolphins live in groups of up to 10 or 12 individuals. Like other dolphins, they use an echolocation system to locate their food and often cooperate with each other to corral their prey. Frequently they sail the wake left by the boats and, sometimes, they approach the swimmers and let them play with them.

The nose bottle nose is characterized by its long and robust frame. It can measure almost 4 meters and weigh about 300 kg, although it can reach 650 kg.
It is estimated that the population of the tropical Pacific would correspond to about 590,000 while that of the Atlantic is between 14,000 and 23,000.
