The South American raccoon (Procyon cancrivorus) is an animal native to South America belonging to the raccoon family. It is found in tropical regions on both sides of the Andes and currently lives from Costa Rica to Brazil, Paraguay and northeastern Argentina and Uruguay.

His face is whitish with a black mask over his eyes; black tail with yellowish-white rings; legs and hands of naked appearance, with fingers ending in claw. They measure from 23 to 30 cm in height, the length of the body with the head is 42 to 70 cm and that of the tail from 20 to 41 cm. They weigh up to 15 kg.
