It has a height of half a meter on the cross and a length of 70 to 110 cm and a tail of 2 to 5 cm. It is characterized by a coat of chestnut-greyish bristles and a white spot reminiscent of a collar at the base of the neck. In the back it has a glandular cavity of 12 to 1 cm from which it secretes a musky odor oil.

It is a terrestrial, diurnal and twilight species. It feeds on a great variety of fruits fallen to the ground. In addition, it consumes seeds, leaves, branches, roots, insects, small vertebrates and fungi.
