The town of San Gabriel, is in the Cajón del Maipo Valley at 1300 meters above sea level and 30 km from San José de Maipo.
It is characterized by its imposing landscape dominated by the mountain. Here, the last Carabineros checkpoint is located before the border; there is also commerce and several restaurants.
San Gabriel emerged as a small hamlet born of livestock activities and the exploitation of quarries and mines. In this locality it is possible to observe in the rocky slopes of the hills the "Ciprés de la Cordillera", one of the few existing confieras in the country.
