Habitat: Cordilleran areas, on slopes and rocky slopes close to aguadas. 2,000 - 4,000 meters above sea level.
It measures 20 cm. Gray head, notorious yellow spot between the crown and the neck (absent in the immature). Gray back, darkening to the back, black supracaudales. Whitish lower parts, more grayish towards the belly and somewhat rufous towards the lower flanks. Blackish primaries with small white spots on the tips; gray coverts bordered by white. Blackish tail with barbs of clear lateral rectrizes. Peak and black legs.
