It measures 50-66cm long from head to trunk and tail of 24-32 cm; weighs 900-1,600 g. Smooth and dense coat of dark gray to brown in upper areas and lighter gray or white in ventral region.
Habitat and geographical distribution:
In Chile it is only present in the north in the Andes mountain range (ecoregion of the Puna) between 3,000 and 5,000 meters above sea level, specifically in the region of Arica and Parinacota (Pacheco et al., 2008). The species is present in almost the entire territory of Peru, southern Bolivia and northern Chile, in the Andes, between 3,000 and 5,000 meters above sea level
