The Padre Le Paige museum has about 4,000 skulls, innumerable mummies, weapons and wells on display. Its history includes the arrival of Jesuit priest, who deeply concerned by the study of prehistoric Atacama culture began a study in areas inhabited by this culture and came to collect a large number of invaluable species of great beauty and history .

The personality of Father Gustavo Le Paige occupies a prominent place in both the development of the Chilean archeology and in particular in the work aimed to uncover the roots of man in northern Spain. He founded the Regional Archaeological Museum of San Pedro de Atacama on 6 January 1963.
